Standards for Information and Referral represent benchmarks for quality and comprehensive professional information and referral programs. Through the years, the National Aging Information and Referral Support Center has played an integral role in shaping I&R standards. In 1990, the National Aging I&R Support Center created the first National Older Americans Act Information and Referral Standards. Today, one universal set of AIRS National Standards are recognized by specialized and generic I&Rs including the aging network. The National I&R Support Center continues to review new iterations of the standards to ensure they meet the needs of the aging network.
